Dave’s C.V.

In his first role after graduating from Glasgow University Vet School, Dave took charge of a busy branch surgery at Croft Vets, Northumberland. There, under the guidance of RCVS Specialist and Fellow, Malcolm Ness, he developed his veterinary skills for general practice.

Following 18 successful months in Newcastle Dave moved south, joining the award winning Parkvets Vet Group in London. Initially joining as a locum, he was soon presented the challenge of turning around a struggling branch surgery.

In the following three years he developed the branch to be the most successful site in the group and was rewarded with a management role and directorship within the group.

Managment Experience

At the same time Dave was appointed Director of Business Development, he gained the Professional Certificate in Management (a globally recognised management qualification with the Open University).

Another three years of group-wide growth followed, driven by a focus on developing the clinical team, service level and by introducing many innovative marketing initiatives.

Dave then began working as an independent management consutlant and has helped several practices in the UK deliver double digit growth, including the Village Vet Group.

In 2009 Dave emigrated to Australia and compelted the purchase of his first solely owned practice, North Ryde Veterinary Hospital in Sydney.

 

Clinical Experience

Although now heavily involved in developing businesses, Dave’s passion for clinical practice burns as brightly today as ever.

A true general practitioner, Dave is comfortable with all aspect of small animal, first opinion medicine and surgery. However he has undertaken further training in the disciplines of dentistry and diagnostic imaging.

Publishing, Speaking & The Hamster Wheel

In addition to clinical interests, Dave is a well known writer and speaker within the the veterinary industry.

He publishes a weekly management blog and hosts a management group on Linkedin, both of form the spine of the growing management movement for vets called The Hamster Wheel Veterinary Business Network.

Dave travels to several international conferences each year to give talks on his management specialty interest areas of performance management and digital marketing.

In 2011 he published his first ebook calledThe Yellow Pages Are Dead - marketing your vet practice in the digital age.
